My Story
CAROLINA ORTIZ
I have always been drawn to spaces—how they make us feel, how they shape our routines, and how a simple shift in light or layout can change the way we live. Growing up in Costa Rica, surrounded by nature and movement, I learned early on to appreciate simplicity, balance, and the quiet beauty in everyday spaces. That sensitivity to my surroundings eventually became the foundation of my life’s work.
My path into interior design began after studying Business Administration at Babson College, a foundation that taught me how people think, work, and move through the world. But it was at Parsons School of Design in New York where I found the language to express what I had always felt — that design is not about decoration, but about understanding people and shaping spaces that support their lives.
I returned to Costa Rica and co-founded Interdiseño, working side by side with an experienced architect on new-construction homes and hospitality projects. Those years taught me discipline, detail, and the importance of collaboration. I learned to listen — to clients, to architects, to the architecture itself — and to translate ideas into spaces that felt grounded and authentic.
Later, when life brought me to Madrid and into motherhood, my relationship with design deepened. Renovations became my world: tearing down, rethinking, rebuilding. There is something intimate about transforming an existing home — uncovering its history, respecting its bones, and reshaping it to truly serve the people who live there. For over a decade, I dedicated myself to full residential remodels, working with contractors whose craftsmanship I admire and guiding projects from first sketch to final detail.
Along the way, I continued my studies through the PDD program at IESE Business School, strengthening my leadership and giving me a deeper understanding of how to manage complex projects with clarity and calm.
Today, living in Abu Dhabi, I carry with me all these experiences — the warmth of Costa Rica, the structure of New York, the elegance of Madrid, and the openness that comes from crossing cultures and rebuilding homes across different landscapes.
Every project I take on is an opportunity to listen, to understand, and to create a space that feels both personal and purposeful — a place where beauty and function live naturally together.
